Software Standards

Now that you have decided on which computer to buy, you need to make sure you have the
necessary software to accomplish your tasks. Depending on which platform (Mac or PC) you
have ordered, and what software you already have on your old machine, some software will
be included on your new machine when it is delivered. This document will explain those
inclusions, as well as other options you will have.
The Chancellor's Office has negotiated a system-wide license for selected Microsoft
products. This makes available free of charge to Faculty and Staff a "Standard Desktop
Configuration" suite of Microsoft software. The suite includes any of the following:
Microsoft Windows 2000 Professional, XP Professional
Microsoft Office
Microsoft Visual Studio Professional
Microsoft FrontPage
Microsoft Publisher
You may call User Support at extension 2307 to request installation of these Microsoft
products.
Software for Macintosh Computers
These applications will be installed on the hard drive of your new Macintosh free of charge:
Netscape Communicator (Web Browser)
Mircosoft IE (Web Browser)
Dartmouth College Fetch 3.0.1 (FTP Client)
FirstClass (E-Mail Client)
Meetingmaker (Scheduling)
These applications may be installed upon request, at the prices listed in red:
Synergy Software VersaTerm 5.0.4 (Telnet Client) ($53.63)
The dollar amounts in red are the chargeback totals, including one user license and CA state
sales tax. The license does not include disks or manuals. If you already have a licensed copy
of the software on your old machine, there is no chargeback.
Software for PC's (Gateway and Dell)
These applications will be installed on the hard drive of your new PC free of charge:
Netscape Communicator (Web Browser)
Mircosoft IE (Web Browser)
WS FTP (FTP Client)
NetTerm (Telnet Client)
FirstClass (E-Mail Client)
MeetingMaker (Scheduling)
