Software Standards

Now that you have decided on which computer to buy, you need to make sure you have the necessary software to accomplish your tasks. Depending on which platform (Mac or PC) you have ordered, and what software you already have on your old machine, some software will be included on your new machine when it is delivered. This document will explain those inclusions, as well as other options you will have.

The Chancellor's Office has negotiated a system-wide license for selected Microsoft products. This makes available free of charge to Faculty and Staff a "Standard Desktop Configuration" suite of Microsoft software. The suite includes any of the following:

Microsoft Windows XP Professional
Microsoft Office
Microsoft Visual Studio Professional
Microsoft FrontPage
Microsoft Publisher

You may call User Support at extension 2307 to request installation of these Microsoft products.

Software for Macintosh Computers

These applications will be installed on the hard drive of your new Macintosh free of charge:

Safari (Web Browser)
Firefox (Web Browser)
Dartmouth College Fetch 3.0.1 (FTP Client)
FirstClass (E-Mail Client)
Meetingmaker (Scheduling)

The dollar amounts in red are the chargeback totals, including one user license and CA state sales tax. The license does not include disks or manuals. If you already have a licensed copy of the software on your old machine, there is no chargeback.

Software for PC's

These applications will be installed on the hard drive of your new PC free of charge:

Firefox (Web Browser)
Internet Explorer (Web Browser)
WS FTP (FTP Client)
FirstClass (E-Mail Client)
MeetingMaker (Scheduling)
