ITSS is committed to helping you achieve more through technology. As such, we have prepared workshops and associated materials for your consumption. Workshops are generally scheduled during each quarter. The handout materials for the workshops are available at our Self-Help Documentation section and we also use the Help and How-to's from Microsoft in our workshops. Check out the information below on the subjects we cover, and when you're ready to sign up, please call x.2307 to sign-up for workshops. You will be placed on the attendance list. Workshop Description & Prerequisites

Our beginning workshops are geared more toward terminology, new features and a basic overview and our intermediate workshops review some basics, but for the most part will spend time on more advanced features.

Beginning Word

This is a workshop designed for novices who want to learn the basics. The participant will learn how to create, save, open, edit and navigate within a Word document.

Prerequisite - Basic knowledge of the Windows or Mac operating systems.

Intermediate Word

This is a workshop designed for participants that have previously used and are familiar with Word Processing software. The participant will learn about tables, importing graphics, mail merge basics, templates and macros.

Prerequisite - Beginning Word or the equivalent.

Beginning Excel

This is a workshop designed for novices who want to learn the basics of using a spreadsheet. The participant will learn how to use basic formulas, moving around in a worksheet, and data entry.

Prerequisite - Basic knowledge of the Windows or Mac operating systems, basic mathematics skills.

Intermediate Excel

This is a workshop designed for participants who want to learn more than the spreadsheet basics. The participant will learn about sorting, filtering, and subtotaling.

Prerequisite - Beginning Excel or the equivalent.

Beginning Windows

This is a workshop designed for novices who want to learn the basics. The participant will learn computer basics including the desktop, icons, changing screen settings, creating shortcuts, using Windows Explorer and printing.

Prerequisite - Beginning typing

Intermediate Windows

This is a workshop designed for participants who want to learn more than Windows basics. The participant will learn computer basics including printer management, file management, system tools, control panel, networking and sharing files.

Prerequisite - Beginning Windows or the equivalent.

File Management/Backup

This is a workshop designed for novices who want to learn the basics of file management and backing up files. The participant will learn filing management with My Computer and Windows Explorer including saving, creating, moving and deleting files and folders, organizing files and folders and backup.

Prerequisite - Basic knowledge of the Windows or Mac operating systems.

PowerPoint

This is a workshop designed for beginners who want to learn the basics with an extra touch of sound and images. The participant will learn how to create, save, open, edit and navigate within a PowerPoint document.

Prerequisite - Basic knowledge of the Windows or Mac operating systems.

Meeting Maker

This is a workshop for participants to learn how to design a calendar of events and propose meetings or activities with others and setting up a proxy.

Prerequisite - Basic computer usage in a Windows or Mac environment

Mail Merge

This is a hands-on workshop designed for participants to learn how to use the wizard as well as using your own examples in order to obtain advanced information about Mail Merge. Participants are encouraged to bring Mail Merge examples to the workshop.

Prerequisite - Beginning and Intermediate Word or the equivalent. Bring examples!

FirstClass Email

This is a hands-on workshop designed for those that are somewhat familiar with E-mail. You will learn how to send, and receive email, setup a personal mail list, working with the address book, changing the password, changing preferences and any new features.

Prerequisite - Understanding of E-mail and basic computer usage in a Windows or Mac environment

Security

This is an information and hands-on class about keeping your computer secure from intruders, campus-wide desktop security standards, confidential data, computer security audit, and campus-wide Active Directory migration.

Prerequisite - CSUB employee. All employees using a CSUB campus computer should attend.

Campus Computing

This is an informational class about ITSS computer resources available on campus. Resources available include: computer departments, labs, location for self-help Documentation, and a forum with questions.
