RunnerMail Being Phased-Out
Due to the severe budget crisis in the California State
University System, and the fact that free email accounts
are so widely available, CSUB is planning to phase-out
RunnerMail. Also taken into account is the reality that
many of the free email programs (Gmail, Hotmail, Yahoo,
etc.) provide significantly more storage capability and
functionality then the current RunerMail email system.
If you are a student that does not have a RunnerMail
account this will not affect you and you do not need to do
anything. If you are a student and currently using your
RunnerMail account there are a couple things you need to
do. If you don’t already have another email account you
should establish one with your vendor of choice; the
University IT Division recommends Gmail because of the
many features. You should check your MyCSUB account to
make sure the preferred email address you have provided
the University is accurate; this is how the University
will communicate with you. The RunnerMail system will be
phased-out in December of 2009, so any email that may be
in your account should be moved into your email account of
choice or saved in some other way before December. Once
the RunnerMail system is shut down there will be no way to
retrieve any email left in any accounts. The University
will securely delete all data remaining on the RunnerMail
server.
Assistance with forwarding email from your RunnerMail
account to another email account, as well as assistance in
establishing a new email account if you need one, will be
available in the McNair Computing Lab in the lower level
of the Walter Stiern Library.
