How To Use The Export Method
The export method allows you to download one or more folders (or selected emails) at a time. Folder names are
automatically created on your computer just as they appear in FirstClass. When downloaded, the emails are converted into a Rich
Text Format (rtf) and can be opened by MS Word. Nested folders (folders with in folders) will be downloaded as well, retaining
hierarchical structure.
Note: This method should be tested to see if it suits your needs prior to deleting mail in FirstClass.
Pros for Export:
quick and easy way to download
download a folder of mail including "sent" messages, retaining hierarchical structure of "nested" folders (folders within folders)
folder names that appear in FirstClass are created/named for you when downloaded to the computer
Cons for Export:
only the body of the email is retained (no date, header, attachment name, ect.
each email becomes a separate document with downloaded date (can be opened with MS Word)
attachments (if needed) must be downloaded separately
not in email format (changed to rtf)
To export a folder of email, click on the folder (to highlight it) and from the File menu select "Export". Then select
the location to save the folder to in the Save As box. This will save the folder and the mail within all to your hard drive
(the attachment is not saved and must be downloaded separately).
Once you have downloaded a folder to your computer (and any needed attachments), it can be deleted from FirstClass.
