Retired professor Ron Dolkart was awarded emeritus status at the June commencement ceremony.
“This honor is bestowed on faculty members by their colleagues in appreciation of their excellent services to the university, its students, and the profession,” said CSUB President Horace Mitchell.
Dolkart taught Latin American history at the university for 32 years and carved out a research area by joining his interest in Latin America with his love of classical music: “Because I had always been an avid aficionado of classical music and opera, I thought about putting this interest together with a study of the business of opera, the ‘industry’ of impresarios who brought companies of opera from Europe to Argentina, and to the rest of Latin America.”
“I have been working in this area in the last few years, with research trips to Argentina, Brazil and Mexico. So far I have completed some articles and papers. The last few summers I have been spending time in Rio de Janeiro, and look forward to another summer there to finish up my research…now with retirement, there should be time to put it all together in a book. To all my friends, colleagues and students at CSUB, ‘adios y buena suerte.’”
