HEALTH: The Multi-faceted approach

Beliefs

Wellness is an approach to making decisions in life, not just behavior. You can be physically fit, and not well in other areas of your life. BELIEFS stands for the many dimensions of health—Body, Emotions, Livelihood, Intellect, Environment, Friends and Spirituality. Any decision you make in one area affects the other areas as well. Here are some suggestions and resources to stay well.

Body- Did you know you can come in for health check-ups at the student health center? Find out what services are available, call 661-654-2394.

Emotions- How do you express anger, happiness, sadness, and fear? The Counseling Center can help you when you need it. Call 661-654-3366

Livelihood- It is better to be undecided as to career choice than pick a field without fully investigating its compatibility with you. Commit yourself to doing an internship in the area you want to work. Don’t forget the Career Planning and Placement Office at 654-3033.

Intellect- You made a wise choice in coming to CSUB, but don’t stop at just attending classes. Speakers and other enriching activities are offered at CSUB campus. Keep your mind and eyes open.

Environment- We are all sharing the same space. How we take care of it will have consequences for us. Check out the many good books on the subject.

Friends- College can be alienating, so why not get involved? The Student Activities Office has a list of clubs and they would love to hear from you.

Spirit/Soul- Spirituality doesn’t necessarily revolve around any religion at all. Read about other beliefs, take classes on them.

It’s a mistake to view each of these separately, rather than collectively. Balance is key: become well-rounded and consider all the dimensions when making decisions.
