Charge

Educational Opportunity Program enabling legislation of March 1969 authorizes the CSU to provide grants and, where appropriate, educational assistance for students from economically disadvantaged backgrounds who display potential for success in the CSU curricula.

EOP students are individuals with a history of low family income, often members of an ethnic minority group, and have high academic potential but, because of past grades or test scores, may not readily attend college.

Function

A primary goal of the CSU Educational Opportunity Program is to improve access of disadvantaged students by making higher education a possibility for prospective students with potential for academic success. EOP aids disadvantaged students to achieve academic success by providing a comprehensive program of support services.

Typical services provided by a campus EOP include, but are not limited to, recruitment, preadmission counseling, orientation, summer program, diagnostic testing, financial aid follow-up, special admissions, academic advisement, tutoring, learning skills services, and personal educational and career counseling.
