Safety & Risk Management

Emergency Escape Procedures

If you receive information (smoke, fire alarm, verbal warning etc.) of a fire or other emergency that necessitates your leaving the building, the following procedures should be followed:

  • If you have time, report the incident as described above;
  • Calmly but quickly collect immediate personal possessions (purse, wallet, glasses, coats, etc.);
  • If time and safety permit, close all interior doors, checking as you do so to insure no one is trapped or incapacitated;
  • Calmly but quickly make your way to the nearest safe exit, assisting the disabled or others as needed and exit the building;
  • If the emergency involves a fire, do not use elevators, use stairways only; and
  • Proceed to the designated evacuation collection point/staging area and report to the building monitor to insure all employees are accounted for.
For further information regarding this plan or inquiries into your duties concerning emergency response, contact the Emergency Preparedness Coordinator at ext. 2111.
