Mission Statement: As a university with a diverse student
population, CSUB recognizes the need for a modern university to
provide a global cross-cultural perspective. Anthropology's
central concern is to understand human biological and cultural
diversity, as well as the processes by which that diversity has
evolved. The core of anthropology remains expertise in
non-Western cultures, requiring the need to make sense of
cultural systems quite different from our own, both past and
present. The need for cross-cultural understanding can only
become increasingly more vital as we enter the next millennium.
Exposure and sensitivity to other cultures is essential for all
university students. The mission of the B.A. program in
Anthropology is to provide students with a basic nonjudgmental
understanding and appreciation of the diversity of other
cultures. Students will be provided with a theoretical and
methodological basis for the analysis of anthropological data.
Upon completion, students will be prepared for entry into an
Anthropology graduate program and/or a career that utilizes
anthropological knowledge. To accomplish this mission, the
program has set forth the following goals and objectives for
student learning: Departmental Learning
