Students graduate from the CSUB Art Department with an extensive education in the area of their selected concentration, enabling them to pursue careers as fine artists, museum curators, art historians and teachers. Many of our students go on to graduate school or to a credentialing program for teaching.

The CSUB Art Department offers a wide variety of instruction and activities in the visual arts. The curriculum includes courses in various media (drawing, painting, photography, printmaking, new genre, sculpture, and ceramics), art history, and contemporary art. Most courses are open to all CSUB students, both majors and non-majors.

The department offers the following curricula:

  • BA in Art with emphasis in Studio Art, Art History or Art Education

  • Minor in Studio Art or Art History

  • Interdisciplinary minor in Film and Modern Art
    (see page 116 of catalog)

The CSUB Art Department encourages studio art students to develop a comprehensive body of artwork in one or more medium. Students in Studio Art, Art History and Art Education gain an extensive knowledge of art history and a perspective into the diversity of the contemporary art world.
