PAST PROJECTS

2002

Archaeological Assessment of the Arroyo Pasajero Westside Detention Basin with Tulare Lakebed Flood Storage Project, Kings County, California.  Survey and geologic trenching of the western shoreline of Tulare Lake near Kettleman City, on behalf of the California Department of Water Resources and the United States Bureau of Reclamation. Seven prehistoric sites and 46 prehistoric isolates were recorded along the 190-ft. contour, which is believed by some to have been a possible Clovis shoreline.

2002

Archaeological Investigations at CA-KER-246, Red Rock Canyon State Park, Kern County, California.  Testing of site CA-KER-246 for the California Department of Parks and Recreation and the Bureau of Land Management.  The results demonstrated the site to be a single-component lithic reduction site dating to the Gypsum Period, with a possible earlier component during the Pinto Period.

2001

Archaeological Survey Report, Cartago-Olancha Four-Lane Project, U.S. Route 395, Inyo County, California.  A Phase I archaeological investigation conducted on behalf of Caltrans.  The survey, which consisted of approximately 3,400 acres, resulted in the recordation of 31 prehistoric sites, 20 historical sites, and four combined sites.

2001

Test Excavation of the Friant Cove Site (CA-FRE-3111/H), Friant, Fresno County, California.  Testing and evaluation (Phase II study) of the Friant Cove site, located in central Fresno County.  Excavations revealed a prehistoric component with an intact archaeological deposit dating to the Middle Holocene, between ca. 5,100 and 5,500 years B.P.

2000

Archaeological Monitoring at CA-KER-4595. Archaeological monitoring at prehistoric archaeological site CA-KER-4595 during construction of roadway improvements along State Route 178.

1999

Archaeological Assessment of Two Historic Can Dumps at Enterprise Mill (CA-TUL-814H) and Galena Mine Camp (CA-TUL-1648H), Mountain Home Demonstration State Forest, Tulare County, California. An archaeological inventory of two historical can dumps located in two separate historical archaeological sites, to see if they were contemporaneous with historical operations in and around the sites.

1998

Test Excavation of Prehistoric Site CA-KER-4595, Kern County, California.  Test excavations on behalf of Caltrans of CA-KER-4595 at the mouth of the Kern Canyon just east of Bakersfield.  The site was determined to have functioned as a small camp, a milling station, and a fishing station with considerable time depth (upwards of 6,000 years old).  Trading activities involving Olivella and obsidian were also evident.

1997

The Dillonwood Grove Site (CA-TUL-1985), Tulare County, California.  Testing and evaluation of the Dillonwood Grove Site on the western slope of the southern Sierra Nevada in eastern Tulare County, on behalf of California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection.  In-field lithic analysis units, obsidian sourcing and hydration, and protein residue analysis indicated that this site was a temporary camp associated with seasonal hunting and/or gathering forays as long ago as ca. 1,800 years B.P.

1997

Archaeological Inventory of the Chevron/Santa Fe Midway Valley 3D Seismic Survey Project.  Archaeological survey of 64 square-mile petroleum exploration project for federal compliance, involving BLM, Department of Energy, and private lands in western Kern County, CA.
