CSUB alumni celebrate Homecoming week

“It’s Good to be Home” is the theme of Homecoming at CSUB and in recent years, the Alumni Association has been doing more and more to reunite its graduates during this special week.

And it’s adding even more this year.

Here’s what’s on tap:

HOMECOMING PREGAME CELEBRATION

New this year, the Alumni Association will hold its first Homecoming Pregame Celebration with food, drinks and giveaways at Lengthwise at The Marketplace Saturday, Feb. 24, from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. Attendees are encouraged to then head across the street to watch the men’s basketball team take on Seattle U. at 6 p.m.

Tickets to the pregame celebration cost $30 per adult and $10 per child. The ticket price includes appetizers, two alcoholic drinks, one non-alcoholic drink, and chances to win prizes. People who want to go to the basketball game need to buy their tickets separately.

Adult tickets for the pregame celebration can be purchased HERE.

Adult and children’s tickets can be purchased at the door.

HALL OF FAME GALA

A week earlier, the association will kick off its Homecoming activities with the 12th Annual Hall of Fame Gala, to be held at the Bakersfield Country Club Feb. 16.

This year’s class includes: Bakersfield High School civics teacher Jeremy Adams; Bakersfield businessmen Bryan Burrow and Edward Paine; and Bakersfield City School District School Health Coordinator Debbie Wood.

RISING RUNNERS

The celebrations continue Feb. 23 when the association recognizes four “Rising Runners” – alumni from the last 10 years who are doing exceptional work in their chosen field and community.

This year’s Rising Runners are Michael Pawloski, a medical social worker at Hoffman Hospice; Katie O’Sullivan, a geology lecturer at CSUB; Derek Abbott, vice president of community development & resource planning at Tejon Ranch; and Ryan Drakos, an accounting manager with Wonderful Pistachios & Almonds.

They will be honored at an awards ceremony and then participate in a panel discussion where students can ask them questions about their career paths.

The university's Homecoming Family Barbecue will feature free food, fun activities and a DJ on the Icardo Center Lawn Feb. 24.

It will be held from 4 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. and be open to those on campus, alumni, the community and their families.

CAMPUS ALUMNI LUNCH AND SOCIAL

And the Alumni Association will help build campus spirit with a Campus Alumni Lunch and Social for CSUB graduates who now work on campus Wednesday, Feb. 21. There will be lunch and a chance to win prizes for those who show the most spirit and who know the most campus trivia. It will be held starting at 11:30 a.m. in the SRC Solario.
