Transfer applicants are those who have attended a college or university since high school but have not completed the requirements for a Bachelor's degree. There are two types of Transfer applicants: lower division and upper division.

How do I qualify as a lower-division transfer student?

You are considered a lower-division transfer student if you have completed less than 56 transferable semester units or 84 transferable quarter units.

How do I qualify as a upper-division transfer student?

• If you have completed more than 56 transferable semester units or 84 transferable quarter units you are considered an upper division transfer students. As an upper division transfer student, you must:Have an overall college GPA of 2.00 or higher in all transferable college work attempted. Non-residents of California must have a GPA of 2.40.Been in good standing at the last college, university, or institution attended in regular session.
• Complete a minimum of 30 semester units of 45 quarter units courses approved to meet CSU General Education (GE) requirements. As part of this total, the CSU GE requirements in the following areas of: Written Communication, Oral Communication, Critical Thinking, and Mathematics/Quantitative Reasoning must be completed. These are based on the CSU General Education Breadth Requirements. Consult your community college catalogue. Some of the above can be met through advanced placement or CLEP tests. Check with your community college counselor.

How do I know what courses transfer to CSUB from other schools?

Visit www.assist.org to help you determine what courses articulate and/or transfer from your previous school. ASSIST provides information about receiving credit at a California public university for courses completed at a California Community College and how those courses can be applied toward your academic goals when you transfer from a California Community College to a CSU or UC campus.

How can I apply to CSUB?

There are several ways to apply to CSUB. We encourage you to apply to CSUB by visiting CSUMentor. If you do not have access to the Internet, you may request an admissions application packet be sent to you. Just call the University Outreach office at (661) 664-3138 or e-mail at outreach@csub.edu.

The application fee requires a non-refundable $55.00 filing fee whether sent via CSUMentor or on paper. Fee waivers are available if you qualify.

Is there a deadline to apply?

California State University, Bakersfield does not have an application filing deadline. However, submitting your application early is strongly encouraged so you can take advantage of any other requirements, i.e., placement tests, EPT/ELM, you may need to fulfill before the term begins. Submitting your application early also allows you to participate in a more early orientation and advising program giving you more choices for classes.

When will I know if you received my application?

Once your application is received and preliminary information such as your name, address, and date of birth, etc., is collected, we will send you a letter that acknowledges receipt of your application. In the following weeks after you have received the acknowledgment letter you will receive another letter requesting any additional information required. You may call the Admissions office at (661) 664-3036 to determine the status of your application. Please have your student identification number (social security number) and term applying for ready when calling.

What about transcripts and other documents?

Transcripts will be required of all institutions attended in order to determine transfer eligibility and admission. Transcripts may be enclosed with your application, however they must be sealed in a separate envelope. Other documents may include a Residency Questionnaire, immigration documents, or proof of California residency. What about test scores?

Test scores from the SAT I or ACT may be necessary and should be directed to California State University, Bakersfield. Depending on your eligibility index from high school, test scores may be required. Use school code 4110 for the SAT test and 0201 for the ACT test. When will I be notified of my admission status?

If your application file is complete with all supporting documents received and evaluated, we will send you a written notice if your admission status within four weeks of acknowledgment of your application. In addition, you will also receive an e-mail address from CSUB which will be the method of communication from the campus during your academic career at CSUB.

If you are admitted to California State University, Bakersfield:

Math and English Placement Test Requirements (EPT/ELM)?Unless exempt due to prior scores on standardized tests (SAT or ACT) or previous qualifying courses taken, all incoming students are required to take the Entry Level Mathematics test, ELM and the English Placement Test, EPT prior to enrollment. If required, we encourage you to take them as soon as possible after being being admitted so results will be available for advisement. Orientation and Advising Once admitted, you will receive a letter stating the available dates for orientation and advising.
