A WEEK OF LEARNING, FELLOWSHIP AND ENJOYMENT

Three classes will be held on four days on the following topics:
ENERGY SOURCES IN KERN COUNTY
Representatives from the energy industry will speak about Oil & Gas Production as well as Renewable Energy Sources (Wind, Solar, Hydroelectric & Biomass).
Karen Polyniak, Cheryl Tikanen and Rosia Lee Goen are planning this segment.
CURRENT POLITICAL ISSUES
Dr. Kent Price, CSUB professor, will again return by request. He will talk one day about the classes he teaches. On the remaining days he will present students who will discuss current political issues, especially the upcoming November election.
Phyllis Algra and Harold Tapley are arranging this class.
CHICANO MUSIC
Dr. Jess Nieto, former professor at Bakersfield College and Founder & Coordinator/Director of Chicano Studies & Chicano Cultural Center, will discuss the history of Chicano music and will play examples of types of music.
Dr. José Reyna will present a program about Tejano music or Tex-Mex music. Tejano is the name given to various forms of folk and popular music originating among the Mexican American populations of Central and Southern Texas.
Mr. Nicanor Olmos will talk about Mariachi Music and present examples.
Eloise Higgins has planned these afternoons of music.
FIELD TRIP
On one day we will visit the Taft Oil Museum and other areas related to the energy industry.
The cost for the week is $130.00 which includes twelve classes covering the three topics, snacks and coffee, lunch in the Commons and a field trip. A deposit of $55.00 due by June 1 will hold your place in the week-long college. The balance of $75.00 will be due on September 13 at Possibilities Day or to Denise in the Alumni Office. There will be no refunds after October 1. Contact Denise at 654-3211 before that date if you cannot attend. Call Cheryl Tikanen at 397-1138 if you have any questions.
