The following classes will be held on four days on the following topics:
TEJON RANCH LARGEST LANDHOLDER IN KERN COUNTY
Four morning sessions covering the Tejon Ranch from its founding and early history to agricultural activities, commercial developments, conservation and wildlife. Barry Zoeller, Vice president, Corporate Communications and Marketing, will lead the presentations.
CURRENT POLITICAL ISSUES
Dr. Kent Price, lecturer in the CSUB Political Science Department, and some of his students will discuss current political topics.
MUSIC AT CSUB
Dr. Robert Provencio, Professor of Music and Chair of the Music Department, will present musical selections by several of his students
ATHLETICS AT CSUB
Jeff Konye, Director of Athletics, will describe some of the recent developments in the athletic program at Cal State
CHINESE AND BASQUE CULTURE IN KERN COUNTY
Two afternoon sessions will feature talks by Marilyn Lum and Kimberly Loke Whitaker on the history of Chinese in Kern County and history and present operation of Chinese restaurants in Bakersfield. The book “The Chinese in Kern County 1857-1960” will be available for purchase and signing. Chinese food will be served for lunch on one day.
Two afternoon sessions will include a talk by Louis Amestoy on “Being Basque in Bakersfield,” and “The Basques of Kern County” by Steve Bass and George Ansalobehere. Amestoy’s ebook will be available for sale as will Bass and Ansolobehere’s book. Basque food will be served for lunch on one day.
On the last day of the college, a field trip will take students to Tejon’s Commerce Center and a lunch at Don Perico’s will include samples of some wines produced by Tejon Ranch. After lunch the class will visit the vineyard at the base of the Grapevine, then visit the ranch itself.
The cost for the week is $130.00 which includes twelve classes covering the topics listed, snacks and coffee, all lunches and the
field trip. A deposit of $55.00 due by June 1 will hold your place in the week-long college. The balance of $75.00 will be due on
September 12 at Possibilities Day or to Denise in the Alumni Office. There will be no refunds after October 1. Contact Denise at
