A WEEK OF LEARNING, FELLOWSHIP, AND ENJOYMENT

The Schedule for Monday-Wednesday, and Friday is:

8:30am CONTINENTAL BREAKFAST

9am to 10:30am THE VANISHING FAMILY FARM FEATURING "THE TRACY RANCH"
History from Father Garcia to the Homestead Act to the 21st Century. Overcoming drought, sagebrush, jack rabbits, and depressions in producing ostrich feathers, beef cattle, cotton, alfalfa, and french fries.

Speaker and tour leader will be John Tracy, who grew up on the ranch and has worked it since 1969. Mr. Tracy was named "Kern County's Agriculturist" of the Year (2009) by the Kern County Fair.

10:45 to 12:15pm ASSET DEVELOPMENT
Representatives from several local schools will give us insight into the programs offered to students as extracurricular learning activities. A representative of the Board of Education will explain the responsibilities of the Board to schools and administrations.

12:15 to 1:15pm
LUNCH in the newly-renovated Commons Dining Hall by Aramark, CSUB’s new food service! 1:30-3pm FUN WITH FOUR LOCAL ARTISTS Water color, oil painting, graphic arts and sculpture.

Nancy Ely, professional artist, will demonstrate watercolor painting.

Iva Fendrick, teacher and professional artist, whose work has been shown widely in Bakersfield, will demonstrate hand building of objects using clay.

David Koeth, Chair of the Art Department at Bakersfield City College for the past two years, will talk about the sculpture by Cal State's Ted Kerzie, located just outside the classroom, and graphic arts. David was Graphics Artist at CSUB for a number of years before joining the B.C. faculty.

David Gordon, assistant director of the Bakersfield Museum of Art, will demonstrate oil painting.

Thursday A part-day field trip to the historic Tracy Ranch with a barbecue lunch included.

Elder College will conclude with a reception on Friday afternoon.

The cost for the week is $120 which includes: instruction, breakfast and lunch, Thursday's field trip and Friday's afternoon reception.

Reserve your space by sending the Reservation Form and a $20; the balance will be due at registration on the first day of Elder College. Please notify us by October 1, 2009 if you will not be able to attend the program. Deposits will not be refunded after October 1.
