The CSUB Jazz Coffeehouse Concert Series
is devoted to featuring the many talented student-musicians
in the CSUB music department. We present five concerts throughout
the academic year and each concert features between four and six
student led small jazz ensembles. These ensembles perform a
variety of tunes from 1940's bebop to 1990's fusion to the avant-garde
improvisation of today. Nothing is off limits and students are
encouraged to compose original works to be premeired at these events.
The concert series serves as an important fundraiser for CSUB music
students with all proceeds going back into the CSUB Jazz program to
purchase sheet music, classic jazz recordings
and videos and other materials to help our students progress as
musicians. Additionally, these monies are also used to help fund
the various scholarships that CSUB music students receive every
year. Nearly every single student in the CSUB music program is
supported by some sort of departmental scholarship.
This tradition is continuing today, in part, because of the CSUB Jazz
Coffeehouse Concert Series.
The Jazz Coffeehouse concerts are held at 7:30 PM on various Saturday
evenings
throughout the academic year. The events are held in the
mulit-purpose room of the CSUB Student Union and are sponsored, in
part, by the CSUB Jazz Club. Ticket prices for the current season
are: $10/general admission and $6/students and seniors (60+).
